Our Favorite Fall Herb Pairings
  1. Squash Soup + Chives

Squash soup is a Square Roots staple, and it’s notoriously un-fussy. Simply spoon roasted squash, along with stock and the sautéed veggies of your choice, into a blender and purée until smooth. Reheat for days and don’t forget the fresh chives.

  1. Bolognese + Basil

Warming up with a homemade (or leftover) spaghetti bolognese is the perfect way to ring in the changing weather. Top it with fresh basil for a burst of green to remind you of warmer days.

  1. Oatmeal + Mint

Spending a little extra time on breakfast in the mornings may be the only remedy for the shorter days of winter. Turn your morning oatmeal savory by topping with fresh mint, sautéed spinach, parmesan, and salt and pepper.

  1. Chili + Chives

A big pot of chili is only complete with fresh herbs. Classic chili is best topped with chives, but mint and basil can add a personal twist.

  1. Cauliflower Curry + Basil

Warm, hearty, and spicy, cauliflower curry is the seasonal dish made to warm up cold nights. Balance out the spice and add a pop of color with fresh basil.

  1. Hot Toddy + Mint

Heat water, mint, and brown sugar on the stove for a mint tea that can stand on its own. And if it’s been that kind of week, up the ante by adding whiskey or rum and lemon juice for a cozy cocktail.

  1. Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese + Basil

As soon as the temperature drops below 50, we’re reaching for warm tomato soup and gooey grilled cheese. Top both with basil to add some fresh greens to the picture.

  1. Apple Pie + Mint

Homemade apple pie, baked with fresh-picked apples, deserves only the freshest mint. Pair with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate sweet treat.
