Square Roots | 09.22.20

Whoever said “you can’t please everyone” forgot about pizza. A make-your-own pizza night is easy enough for a crowded dinner table and versatile enough to leave everyone with a smile on their face. So gather the ingredients, set up an assembly line, and let the custom creations begin!

Cheese and tomato sauce pizza with Square Roots arugula and microgreens

  1. Gather the ingredients including crusts, sauces, and toppings.

  2. Start with the crust. Use cauliflower or almond for a gluten-free option, make your own dough from scratch, or keep it simple and buy a pre-made pizza crust. Look for smaller sizes so everyone can have fun creating their own special combo.

  3. Assemble! Start with the sauce, and then layer on veggies, cheese, and meat. Keep in mind that what’s on top will get the crispiest while in the oven.

  4. Cook to perfection. Each crust may have a different baking time and temperature, so make sure to plan accordingly and keep an eye on them as your creation bakes to a golden brown.

  5. The final flourish. Allow the pizza to cool slightly and pile on the greens. Arugula, microgreens, and the all-time classic basil add flavor, texture, and nutrition to the perfect pie.

  6. Dig in!

Flavor Combos

Need some ideas to get started?

You can’t go wrong with a classic margherita pizza. For this style, use red sauce, fresh mozzarella, sliced tomato, and basil (or arugula for a fun twist).

Mozzarella, arugula, and prosciutto is a winning combination. The fresh, intense arugula compliments the mild prosciutto.

Feeling adventurous? Try spicy italian sausage, caramelized onions, and radish microgreens.
